JUNE 25, 2024: Last Thursday, Delhi's Rouse Avenue court granted bail to Kejriwal, who was arrested by the ED in March regarding the excise policy case. However, the ED moved the Delhi High Court the following day, seeking a stay on the trial court's order.

The High Court subsequently imposed an interim stay on Kejriwal's release until it decides on the ED's plea, preventing Kejriwal from being released from Tihar Jail last Friday as initially ordered by the lower court.

The ED has argued that the trial court's order was "lopsided and perverse" and claimed it was not given ample time to present its arguments. In response, Kejriwal's lawyer submitted written arguments on Monday, asserting that the ED's claims were "palpably wrong, misleading, and tantamount to subterfuge and misrepresentation." He argued that the trial court's decision was well-reasoned and reflected a thorough application of mind.

On Saturday, Kejriwal moved the Supreme Court against the interim stay. His lawyer submitted before the Supreme Court on Monday that Kejriwal could be released while the High Court decides on the ED's plea, adding that Kejriwal is not a flight risk.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for Kejriwal's plea on June 26, stating it will await the High Court's pronouncement before proceeding.
