Darshan’s Associate Pavithra Gowda Released on Bail in Connection with Fan’s Murder Case

December 17, 2024: Pavithra Gowda, an associate of popular Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, was released from Bengaluru Central Prison on Monday after being jailed in connection with the notorious Renukaswamy murder case. Gowda’s release follows the completion of bail formalities after Darshan, who was also implicated in the case, appeared before a Bengaluru Sessions Court.

Darshan was arrested on June 11, 2024, on charges related to the kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan of the actor. The victim's body, which showed signs of severe torture, was found near a drain in Bengaluru’s Sumanahalli locality on June 8, 2024. Initial investigations revealed that Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga, had allegedly sent inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda, which led to his brutal abduction, torture, and murder.

The case initially seemed straightforward, with four individuals surrendering to the police, claiming the murder was motivated by a financial dispute. However, further investigation uncovered a deeper conspiracy involving Darshan, Gowda, and 15 other individuals, casting doubt on the initial narrative.

Darshan, who had been hospitalized for more than six weeks at BGS Hospital in Kengeri due to back pain, was not subjected to any surgery during his stay. On Friday, seven other accused individuals in the case were also granted bail. While Darshan’s fans erupted in celebrations, gathering outside the hospital to perform rituals, his legal team ensured that all necessary legal requirements were met for his bail.

The murder case has sparked widespread controversy, particularly among Renukaswamy’s family. His father, Kashinath Shivanagouda, expressed his faith in the judicial system despite the recent bail grant. "I got to know through the media that the criminals who killed my son got bail. I don’t have the details of it. We have faith in the judiciary. Bail may have been granted, but we firmly believe that the accused will be punished," said Kashinath Shivanagouda from Chitradurga.
