September 22, 2023: ISRO on Friday aiming to revive Chandrayaan 3’s Vikram Lander and the Pragyan rover taking advantage of the increased sunlight on the Moon.
The lander and rover have remained inactive for approximately half a month on the Moon’s Shiv Shakti point-enduring freezing temperatures reaching -200 degree celsius.
ISRO officials said that the possibility of restoring full functionality to the hardware is limited; but they may be able to awaken the lander and rover with reduced capabilities.
India scripts history after Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander successfully landed on the moon’s South Pole on August 23, 2023. Chandrayaan-3 was launched into space by the LVM3 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on July 14.
India became the fourth country in the world to land on the moon after the United States, Russia, and China. On the other hand, India is the only country in the world to land on the lunar South Pole.
