March 18, 2025: A horrifying case of violence has emerged from Batua Tuli village under Golakganj Police Station in Dhubri district, where an elderly couple was brutally attacked with sharp weapons. The victims, identified as Askar Ali (60) and his wife Rupkhan Bibi (55), sustained serious head injuries and are currently in critical condition at Dhubri Medical College Hospital.

According to the victims’ daughter, Anju Khatun, the attack was carried out by three brothers—portal journalist Shahidul Haque, along with Sadeq Ali and Sahibul. It is alleged that the attack stemmed from a financial dispute related to the elderly couple’s son, who had been working at the accused’s house. Reports suggest that the accused, led by Shahidul Haque, launched a violent assault with sharp weapons, leaving the couple severely injured.

Following the attack, family members rushed the victims to Golakganj Police Station, where the officer in charge immediately directed them to a hospital for treatment. Despite medical attention, their condition remains critical.

Late at night, Golakganj police conducted an operation and arrested one of the accused, Sadeq Ali. However, concerns have been raised over the police’s lack of action against portal journalist Shahidul Haque, who had previously been jailed in a theft case. Locals have demanded strict action, expressing alarm over the misuse of journalism as a cover for criminal activities.

Authorities continue their investigation, and further arrests may follow as pressure mounts for justice.
