Guwahati: A teenager died after falling into a water-filled pit near Rani in Guwahati, Assam on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred in Andherijuli, near Rani, on the outskirts of Guwahati, where the 14-year-old girl lost her life after accidentally falling into a water-filled excavation pit.

According to reports, the teenager was bathing with friends when she slipped into the deep pit, which had been illegally dug, allegedly, using an excavator.

The pit was one of several excavated in agricultural lands across Rani, posing a significant threat to public safety.

Locals following the report of the girl falling into the pit, joined hands and recovered her body.

The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who demand action against the people responsible for the hazardous excavations.
