Guwahati: Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog during the presentation of the Assam Budget 2025-26 announced a reduction in electricity rates.
As of May 1, 2025, Jeevan Dhara and Domestic Category Consumers with a monthly consumption of up to 120 units will enjoy a reduced electricity rate by Rs 1 per unit.
The finance minister during the presentation of the budget stated that this move is expected to benefit 48 lakh consumers out of the total 68 lakh consumers in the state.
She added that the government will provide a targeted subsidy of Rs 300 crore this year to support this initiative.
If the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) continues to show a positive trend in revenue, the finance minister hinted at considering further reductions in tariff.
