August 19, 2020: Parts of northeast India will witness widespread rainfall in the next 3-4 days. The India Meteorological Department predicted that the monsoon will remain active for the next 3-4 days and a fresh low pressure system will be formed over northern Bay of Bengal.

Due to these factors, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, along with isolated heavy to very heavy showers have been predicted over the northeast till Friday. The Met department also forecast isolated extremely heavy rain over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Wednesday and Thursday, and over Meghalaya on Thursday.

The IMD has also issued an orange alert over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and over Assam. By Friday, the advisory level over Assam and N.M.M. & T. will be downgraded to a yellow watch, which urges residents to “be aware” of the weather situation. During this monsoon, Meghalaya has received 2649.6 mm rainfall—an ‘excess’ compared to its long-term average for this time period—whereas Nagaland (628 mm), Manipur (536.4 mm), and Mizoram (812.8 mm) have all recorded ‘deficit’ precipitation figures. Arunachal Pradesh (1334.3 mm), Assam (1162.5 mm), and Tripura (903.2 mm), on the other hand, have registered a ‘normal’ amount of rainfall so far this season.
