Mizoram re-imposes total lockdown for two weeks

June 8, 2020: As more COVID-19 cases increasing, Mizoram Govt announced re-imposing total lockdown for two weeks starting this midnight.

The decision was taken after Chief Minister Zoramthanga convened a consultative meeting on COVID-19 situation with legislators, government officials, private hospital bodies, church leaders, village and local council members, special task forces and NGOs to discuss the state's way forward in their efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

The Mizoram government said that in a consultative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, the government decided to extend the period of quarantine which currently is 14 days to 21 days with immediate effect.

"A consultative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Zoramthanga decides to impose 2-week total lockdown in the state from 9th June 2020 in view of the prevailing situation. Lockdown guidelines will be notified shortly," the statement added.

Several north-eastern states have witnessed a sharp spike in the number of coronavirus cases since the centre allowed stranded migrants to return.

Mizoram has reported 42 coronavirus cases out of which 41 are active. One patient has been cured of the coronavirus.
