September 8, 2023: On Thursday, at least 49 civilians and 15 soldiers were killed after being attacked on an army base and a passenger boat on the Niger River in northern Mali.



According to some sources, the two separate attacks targeted the Timbuktu boat on the Niger River and an army position at Bamba. Officials claimed that the attacks was done by a group affiliated to Al-Qaeda.



However after the attack, the Malian Government declared three days of national mourning beginning from Friday to pay tribute to the soldiers and civilians.
