February 11, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to discuss collaborative projects and new investment opportunities under the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During the meeting, CM Sarma highlighted Assam’s strategic position as the gateway to Southeast Asia and recalled President Tharman’s visit to the state in 2022, which significantly strengthened bilateral relations. A key focus of the discussion was Singapore’s participation in Advantage Assam 2, the state’s flagship global investment summit.
Scheduled to be held later this year, Advantage Assam 2 aims to position the state as a premier investment destination. The first edition in 2018 attracted major international stakeholders, leading to significant investment commitments. The upcoming summit is expected to drive Assam’s economic growth by fostering global partnerships in key sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, tourism, semiconductors, green energy, and advanced technology—areas where Singapore has strong expertise.
Singapore’s continued engagement in Assam’s investment landscape signals deepening economic ties between the state and the Southeast Asian nation. The meeting reaffirmed both sides’ commitment to leveraging their strengths for sustainable development, trade expansion, and long-term collaboration in emerging industries.
