April 11, 2024: At least twelve Indians were arrested in the United Kingdom during a raid carried out by immigration authorities on bedding and cake factories. Out of 12, eleven persons are men and the remaining is female.



According to a statement released by the UK Home Office on Wednesday, the Immigration Enforcement officers descended on the bedding factories in the West Midlands region of England after knowing that some illegal work was occurring on-site.



On the other hand, the two businesses could now face substantial fines if it is established that they employed illegal workers at their factories and failed to conduct relevant pre-employment checks.

As per officials, four of the offenders were detained for pending consideration for removal from the UK or deportation to India, and the remaining eight have been bailed on the condition they report regularly to the Home Office.



Meanwhile, the UK Minister for Countering Illegal Migration, Michael Tomlinson, said, “Employers found to be breaching the rules can expect significantly increased fines, and if workers are found to have no right to live or work here, we will not hesitate to act and remove them from the country”.
