Guwahati: To strengthen the police force in Meghalaya, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong announced that the recruitment process for 3,000 vacant posts will be completed by June 2025.
This move aims to address the shortage of personnel, which has impacted the functioning of the police department and led to delays in investigations and chargesheets.
Tynsong assured the Assembly that the Meghalaya Police Recruitment Board is actively working to fill the vacancies, which have remained unfilled for several years.
The recruitment process is currently underway, and the government is committed to expediting pending cases. The Director General of Police is personally overseeing the pursuit of pending cases to ensure timely completion.
To further strengthen the police infrastructure, the government has announced the creation of a Police Infrastructure Renovation Fund of Rs 50 lakhs for each district. This fund will be used to identify and renovate vulnerable police stations and outposts.
In addition, Tynsong promised to examine the feasibility of creating a fire service station at Smit, as proposed by a member. The government is committed to improving emergency services across the state.
