Supreme Court Dismisses Petition to Restrict Indian Military Aid to Israel

September 9, 2024 – In a significant ruling today, the Supreme Court of India rejected a petition seeking to prevent Indian entities from supplying military aid and arms to Israel amid its ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The petition, filed by Ashok Kumar Sharma and others and presented through lawyer Prashant Bhushan, urged the court to issue a directive to the Indian government to cancel existing licenses and halt the issuance of new ones for the export of military equipment to Israel.

Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, along with Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, presided over the case. The court highlighted that such decisions are best left to the executive branch of the government, which is equipped to handle complex diplomatic and strategic issues.
