Ranveer Allahbadia’s Vulgar Remark Triggers Political Uproar, Parliamentary Summons Likely

February 11, 2025: YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps, may soon be summoned by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology over his controversial remarks on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The move follows multiple complaints from Members of Parliament (MPs) and police cases filed against him and comedian Samay Raina for their involvement in the episode.

According to sources, the committee is actively considering issuing a notice to Allahbadia to explain his remarks. YouTube may also face scrutiny for broadcasting the content, raising concerns about the regulation of online platforms.

BJD MP Sasmit Patra and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, both members of the IT panel, have expressed strong disapproval of the incident and are set to raise the matter in a meeting on Tuesday. Patra stressed the need for stricter content guidelines to prevent the spread of offensive material, particularly among young audiences.

"It is extremely unfortunate... There must be stronger measures in place to regulate such content, especially when young minds are influenced by these creators," Patra said.

Chaturvedi also condemned the use of "abusive language" under the pretext of comedy, highlighting that Allahbadia had previously received recognition from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the National Creators Awards.

"You don’t get a platform to say just anything. Millions follow him, and such content sets a dangerous precedent. He has even been felicitated by the Prime Minister and has hosted numerous politicians on his podcast," she pointed out.

Allahbadia, who has 4.5 million Instagram followers and over 10 million YouTube subscribers, sparked outrage after making a crude joke about parents and sex on the show. As public backlash grew, he issued an apology on X (formerly Twitter), admitting his mistake.

"My comment wasn't just inappropriate; it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I sincerely apologize. It was a lapse in judgment on my part," he said in a video statement.

Despite the apology, the controversy continues to escalate. The Mumbai Police has summoned Allahbadia for questioning, while the Assam Police has filed an FIR against the judges and hosts of the show, accusing them of promoting obscenity and sexually explicit content.

Amid the mounting pressure, YouTube has taken down the controversial episode following a notice from the Central government. With the issue now gaining political traction, calls for stricter regulation of digital content creators and platforms are growing louder.
