March 23, 2023: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday convicted in defamation case over remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surname and sentenced to jail for two years by a court in Surat, Gujarat.



The case was lodged against the Congress Leader by Purnesh Modi who is a BJP MA and former Gujarat Minister.

According to the complaint, Rahul Gandhi said, “How come all thieves share the Modi surname”. The remark was made in Karnataka during a rally in 2019 ahead of Lok Sabha Elections.
