Rahul Gandhi Accused of Pushing BJP MP During Parliament Scuffle; Pratap Sarangi Alleges Injury

December 19, 2024: A tense altercation in Parliament on Thursday has sparked fresh controversy, with BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of pushing a fellow MP, which led to his own injury. The incident occurred amid heated protests over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on Dr. BR Ambedkar.

Sarangi, who was standing near the stairs at the time, alleged that Gandhi pushed another MP, who then fell onto him, causing him to lose his balance and fall. "I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP who then fell on me," Sarangi stated. He further claimed that BJP MP Mukesh Rajput, who was also involved in the altercation, suffered serious injuries and is currently in the ICU at RML Hospital.

In response to the accusations, Rahul Gandhi defended his actions, accusing BJP MPs of attempting to obstruct his entry into Parliament. "They were pushing me and threatening me, trying to push me," Gandhi said. He emphasized his right to be in the House, adding, "This might be on your camera. I was trying to go inside through the Parliament entrance. BJP MPs were trying to stop me, push me, and threaten me."

The confrontation occurred amid ongoing protests between the BJP and Opposition parties, with both sides accusing each other of misconduct. While BJP leaders, including Sarangi, claimed that Gandhi's actions were intentional and provocative, the Congress leader maintained that it was a result of BJP MPs blocking his access to Parliament.

Gandhi further commented on the broader context of the protests, criticizing the BJP for allegedly attacking the Constitution and disrespecting the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar. "Yes, this has happened (Mallikarjun Kharge being pushed), but we do not get affected by jostling. The central issue is that they are attacking the Constitution and insulting the memory of Ambedkar ji," he said.

The altercation has added fuel to the ongoing war of words between the ruling BJP and the opposition, underscoring the tense political atmosphere in the Parliament as both sides continue to trade allegations.
