September 12, 2024: In a disturbing new development in Jiribam district, a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the Borobekra area was set ablaze early this morning by unidentified attackers. The fire broke out just under 200 meters from a police outpost. Fortunately, no one was inside the facility at the time, and there have been no reported injuries.
Security forces responded quickly to the scene to extinguish the fire and secure the area. The police have not yet released a statement regarding the details of the attack or potential suspects.
This incident follows recent violence in the region, including an attack on September 7 that resulted in the deaths of five people. The Jiri Apunba Lup, a local organization, has accused attackers of using heavy gunfire and explosives against Meitei villages, specifically targeting Ningthem Khunou, Mongbung, and areas within the Borobekra sub-division.
The rise in violence has intensified concerns over security and stability in Manipur, which has been experiencing ongoing unrest.
