President Droupadi Murmu Highlights Achievements in Social Justice, Reflects on India’s Progress at Samvidhan Divas

November 26, 2024: In a poignant address marking the 75th anniversary of the adoption of India’s Constitution, President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday underscored the transformative role of the Constitution in shaping the nation’s democratic framework and promoting social justice. Speaking at the Samvidhan Divas celebrations, she described the Constitution as a "living and progressive document," emphasizing its pivotal role in ensuring both collective and individual dignity for all Indians.

"Our farsighted Constitution-makers provided for a system of adapting new ideas, according to the changing needs of society," President Murmu said in her address, delivered in the Central Hall of Parliament, now known as Samvidhan Sadan. "Through this framework, we have achieved many ambitious goals related to social justice and inclusive development."

Reflecting on India’s journey since the Constitution’s adoption in 1950, the President highlighted the nation’s growth into a global economic powerhouse while also fulfilling its role as a promoter of international peace and security. "The Constitution-makers had envisioned India as a key player in promoting peace, and today, besides being one of the leading economies of the world, our country is fulfilling this directive as the ‘Vishwa-Bandhu’—a global friend," she noted.

In her speech, President Murmu took a moment to celebrate India’s significant milestones, such as the 75th anniversary of independence and the ongoing 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.' These milestones, she said, provide an opportunity to reflect on India’s progress and strategize for a future that continues to honor the principles of democracy, equality, and justice outlined in the Constitution.

She also emphasized that occasions like the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Republic serve as moments of introspection, enabling the nation to assess its journey and plan for the path ahead. "As we celebrate these historic moments, we must remain committed to the ideals enshrined in our Constitution, ensuring that every citizen benefits from the rights and opportunities it guarantees," she concluded.

President Murmu’s remarks came amid a series of events marking the 75th year of India's Constitution, which has guided the nation through decades of political, economic, and social transformation. The Constitution, adopted on January 26, 1950, has played a foundational role in shaping India into a vibrant democracy while addressing the challenges of a diverse and rapidly evolving society.
