January 26, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his tradition of donning eye-catching turbans on national occasions, this time choosing a vibrant red and yellow turban for the 76th Republic Day celebrations. His choice of attire brought a splash of color to the grand event and symbolized India's rich cultural heritage.
Complementing the turban, PM Modi wore a classic white kurta-pyjama paired with a brown bandhgala jacket, complete with a neatly folded pocket square. The ensemble was unveiled when the Prime Minister arrived at the National War Memorial to pay homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation. He then proceeded to Kartavya Path to witness the iconic Republic Day parade.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister extended warm greetings to the nation on this significant day:
“Today we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of our glorious republic. On this occasion, we pay our tribute to all those great personalities who made our Constitution and ensured that our development journey is based on democracy, dignity and unity. It is our hope that this national celebration will preserve the values of our Constitution and further strengthen our efforts towards building a strong and prosperous India.”
PM Modi's penchant for vibrant and traditional turbans has become a hallmark of his public appearances on Independence Day and Republic Day since he assumed office in 2014. Each year, his turban selections highlight India's diverse cultural fabric.
For the 75th Republic Day in 2024, he chose a 'Bandhani' turban, emblematic of India's rich textile tradition, and for the 74th Republic Day, he wore a Rajasthani Bandhani turban, reflecting the state's vibrant culture.
This year’s multicoloured turban continues the legacy, underscoring the unity in diversity that is the cornerstone of India's identity.
