Modi and Shah Urge Voter Participation as Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections Kick Off

September 18, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to vote in large numbers as the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir's assembly elections commenced on Wednesday. Highlighting the significance of the electoral process, he described it as a vital "festival of democracy" and specifically called upon young and first-time voters to make their voices heard.

In a message on X, Modi stated, "As the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections begins, I urge all those in constituencies going to the polls today to vote in large numbers. Let us strengthen the festival of democracy." His appeal aims to inspire active participation in shaping the region's future.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah supported this call, asserting that a government with "iron will" is crucial for achieving peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Only a government with an iron will can create a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir, protect citizens' rights, and accelerate development," Shah tweeted. He urged voters to choose a government focused on youth education, employment, women's empowerment, and the elimination of separatism and nepotism.

The elections will be conducted in three phases, with the second phase set for September 25 and the third on October 1. Results will be announced on October 8.
