October 16, 2024: The situation in Bahraich district is stabilizing following violent clashes on October 13 that resulted in the tragic death of a 22-year-old man. Over 50 individuals have been arrested as authorities work to restore order.

In response to the unrest, mobile internet and broadband services remain suspended in the Mahsi Tehsil to prevent the spread of misinformation. Senior police and civic officials are on-site to ensure law enforcement measures are effective.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash and Home Secretary Sanjeev Gupta are overseeing operations in Bahraich at the directive of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Yash assured reporters, “The situation is reverting to normalcy. The route between Bahraich and Sitapur has been reopened, and security measures are firmly in place.”

In a bid to maintain order, personnel from the police, Rapid Reaction Force (RRF), and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed throughout a 20-kilometer radius of Maharajganj, with heightened vigilance particularly in sensitive areas.

Divisional Commissioner Shashi Bhushan Sushil noted that the violence-affected areas have been divided into nine sectors for close monitoring, emphasizing that peace and order are being prioritized across Bahraich.
