Guwahati: Two Higher Secondary examinees and a junior assistant from JR Higher Secondary School in Cachar, Assam, were arrested for allegedly attacking an external examiner who had prevented them from cheating during an examination.
According to the police, the incident occurred two days ago when Dr Subhash Debanath, an assistant professor of Chemistry from Gurucharan College, Silchar, was attacked by two students, while he was on his way back home after completing his examination duties. The students, who were riding an unregistered motorcycle, allegedly ambushed Dr Debanath, leaving him seriously injured.
An investigation was launched after Dr Debanath filed a complaint with the police.
The probe revealed that the two students had been caught cheating during the examination and were expelled from the hall by Dr Debanath. Seeking revenge, they allegedly attacked him with the help of junior assistant Hanif Alam Mazharbhuiya.
Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta stated that the junior assistant had instigated the students to attack the examiner. The three accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway.
