February 13, 2024: In an operation, the Chariduar Forest Department seized a large quantity of smuggled timber on the Assam-Arunachal road in Sonitpur district on Tuesday.

Reportedly, when the forest dept team stopped the truck carrying timbers, the driver and the handyman fled from the scene leaving the vehicle.

However, the team has seized around 328 pieces of timber from the truck. According to the forest officials, the value of the timber seized is estimated at Rs 4 lakh.
