Silchar: A young couple took their own lives by hanging from a tree, reportedly due to their failed love affair in Cachar, Assam.

As per reports, the bodies were discovered this morning by locals, who promptly alerted the police.

Police arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them to Silchar Medical College for postmortem examination.

The deceased have been identified as Javed Akhtar, and 17-year-old girl from the same neighbourhood in Cachar's Bagpur. According to sources, the two had been in a romantic relationship that was met with disapproval from their families.

Unable to overcome the opposition, the couple reportedly decided to end their lives together. Last night, they hanged themselves from a tree near their homes.

However, the police have begun a probe into the incident and are investigating all angles including honour killing as well.
