Assam forest official arrested for accepting bribe in Sipajhar

Guwahati: Aminul Islam, a Beat Officer at the Kurua Regional Forest Office, was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Branch on Saturday for allegedly accepting a bribe in Bijulibari, under the Sipajhar area of Assam.



Islam, who had been demanding monthly payments of Rs 30,000 from tractor and dumper owners for allowing soil excavation activities, was caught red-handed while receiving Rs 5,000 in cash.



Following a tip-off, anti-corruption officials laid a trap and arrested Islam. A detailed investigation is currently underway.



The sleuths stated that further legal action will be initiated based on the findings of the probe. Islam is currently in custody.
