Andhra Woman, 52, Completes Epic 150-Km Swim from Visakhapatnam to Kakinada

January 4, 2025: In a spectacular display of endurance and determination, 52-year-old Goli Shyamala swam an extraordinary 150 kilometers from Visakhapatnam to Kakinada, capturing the admiration of the nation. Her five-day journey, which began on December 28, culminated in a triumphant arrival at the shores of Suryaraopeta in Kakinada, greeted by cheering crowds and dignitaries.

Shyamala, a seasoned endurance swimmer from Samarlkota village in Kakinada district, completed her feat under the guidance of the Coromandel Odyssee Ocean Swimming organization. Averaging 30 kilometers per day, she battled the challenges of open water, including jellyfish stings and strong currents, while sharing moments of delight with playful dolphins.

Her arrival was celebrated by locals and officials alike, with Peddapuram MLA Chinarajappa and Kakinada Municipal Commissioner Bhavana Vasista leading the congratulatory proceedings.

This is not Shyamala’s first brush with aquatic glory. In 2021, she swam across the Palk Strait, and earlier in February 2024, she became the first Asian swimmer to conquer the challenging waters around the Lakshadweep Islands.

A dedicated support team of 14, including medical professionals and scuba divers, ensured her safety throughout this journey.

Shyamala described her swim as a testament to perseverance and passion. “Age is just a number. It’s about setting goals and chasing them with all your heart,” she said, inspiring countless others to pursue their dreams.

Her feat underscores the indomitable human spirit, proving that barriers, whether physical or societal, can be overcome with determination. Shyamala’s story shines as a beacon of hope, encouraging people of all ages to break boundaries and achieve the extraordinary.
