September 30, 2023: A 24-Year-Old Kiran Baliyan became the first Indian Woman to win a medal at the Asian Games in the Shot Put event in 72 Years. She bagged a bronze medal on Friday.



Baliyan became the second Indian to win a medal in women's shot put in Asian Games after Barbara Webster who won bronze in the inaugural edition in New Delhi in 1951. Barbara is an Anglo-Indian from then Bombay.



Baliyan threw to a distance of 17.36 m to bag the third position in the event. She originally hails from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
