September 4, 2023: Violence broke out between police and Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) in Meghalaya on Monday. Two police personnel were injured in the incident after the protesters pelted stones and bottles.



According to sources, police were forced to release the tear gas because the HITO members forcefully marched towards the main Secretariat near the DC office after returning from the Sadar Police Station.



Earlier, the leaders of the HITO were summoned by Meghalaya Police for allegedly wearing their ‘black uniform’ constituted a violation of Section 171 CrPc.





Protesters were seen raising slogans and carrying placards. Some of the members have also been arrested after the incident.



The members of HITO usually wear black dress during protests, rallies and meetings.
