September 30, 2021: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has expressed his “deepest condolences to the families the deceased” in the bus accident that took place at Nongchram bridge late last night killing 6 people. He wished speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.



“Pained by the unfortunate MTC bus accident at Nongchram Bridge that claimed precious lives. My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and I wish speedy recovery to those injured”, tweeted CM Sangma.

A Meghalaya Transport Corporation bus travelling from Tura to Shillong carrying 21 passengers fell into the Ringdi River at Nongchram. The accident took place at 12 midnight. Rescue team was rushed to the spot. Six people have been declared dead. Some of the injured are being treated at the Rongjeng PHC. There were 9 people from Tura and 12 from Williamnagar, the authorities said. The water level in the river has risen due to rain and there are strong currents.
