August 26, 2024: At least 12 houses and a few vehicles were set ablaze by some unidentified persons in Tripura after an idol was found defaced. The incident occurred in Ranirbazar area in West Tripura.

Following the incident, heavy security deployment has been made in the area to quell the tension.

No human casualties were reported in the incident as residents fled their houses after seeing the mob, according to eyewitnesses.

Assistant Inspector General Ananta Das said that around 12 dwelling houses were set on fire at Ranibazar by miscreants late on Sunday after an idol of Goddess Kali was found disfigured in Kaiturbari.

He also said that heavy deployment of security forces have been made to defuse tension and Director General of Police, Intelligence, Anurag Dhankar and West Tripura Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar have visited the area.

Tipra Motha supremo Padyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Mondey expressed concern over the incident and appealed to everyone to maintain law and order.
