August 24, 2024: A woman in Karnataka’s Udupi district was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a man she met on Instagram, police said.

The incident occurred on Friday Karkala when the accused kidnapped the woman in a white car near a beekeeping site and took her to a forested area. Two other men arrived in another car and provided the accused with beer bottles, according to the complaint.

The accused allegedly mixed drugs with the beer and forced the woman to drink it, rendering her unconscious. He then sexually assaulted her inside the car.

When the accused went to drop the woman home, right-wing activists intercepted his car. They found the woman in an intoxicated state and alerted authorities.

The woman was taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment. The accused was arrested along with another accomplice and charged with kidnapping, rape and other offenses.
