February 16, 2025: Two men wanted in connection with a murder case in Punjab were arrested upon their arrival in India after being deported from the United States. The duo was among the 116 illegal Indian immigrants sent back by US authorities on Saturday.
The deportees arrived at Amritsar airport aboard a US C-17 military aircraft. The arrested men, identified as Sandeep and Pradeep from Patiala district, are cousins and had been on the run following a murder case registered under FIR No. 175 in 2023 at Rajpura, Patiala.
Upon their arrival, the Punjab Police took them into custody after their criminal records surfaced in the US. Legal proceedings against them have now been initiated.
This marks the second batch of deportations by the US government as part of its continued crackdown on illegal immigration. According to reports, more than 60 of the deported individuals hail from Punjab, while over 30 are from Haryana. Others belong to states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Further investigations are underway as authorities examine the background of the deportees and their activities abroad.
