October 29, 2024: In a significant counter-terrorism operation, security forces have gunned down three terrorists in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, which began on Monday, resumed on Tuesday morning with intensified efforts to eliminate the remaining militants.
The encounter erupted after the terrorists opened fire on an army ambulance that was part of a convoy near the Line of Control (LoC). Following the initial attack, special forces and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos launched a concerted assault on the terrorists who were holed up near the Assan temple in Jogwan village, located in the Khour area.
As the operation unfolded, security personnel engaged in a fierce gunfight, which included the sound of two explosions on Tuesday morning, signaling the intensity of the confrontation. By the end of the operation, three terrorists had been killed, with the first militant being neutralized on Monday evening.
Tragically, the operation also saw the loss of a four-year-old army dog named Phantom, who was shot during the engagement. The valiant canine had been part of the security team, showcasing the risks faced by all personnel involved in such operations.
