Punish without delay perpetrators of crime against women, says PM Modi on Independence Day

August 15, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, expressed his distress over atrocities against women and batted for the speedy investigation of such crimes stating that the perpetrators should be awarded strict punishment at the earliest.

Amid the nationwide protests over the alleged rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at a hospital in Kolkata recently, PM Narendra Modi said that there is outrage in the country against the atrocities meted out to women and the country, the society and the State Government will have to take this seriously.

He emphasised that the punishment given to perpetrators of such atrocities must be extensively discussed to instil fear among the people committing this sin.

On his Independence Day speech from Red Fort, he reiterated his commitment to work three times the speed to achieve the goals of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and called the countrymen to join in making a 24×7 commitment for 2047.

PM Modi in an indirect attack on the opposition said that while the nation is moving forward with a unified resolution, some people cannot ‘tolerate’ the progress. He noted that there are both external and internal challenges, and more such challenges are bound to come. “I want to say to such forces that India’s development will not pose a threat to anyone. The world should not worry seeing India’s development,” he added.

He also reiterated his commitment to fight against corruption in India.
