October 25, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for a significant bilateral meeting at his official residence on Friday, marking the beginning of Scholz's three-day visit to India. The discussions focused on enhancing strategic ties between the two nations, with key topics including defense, trade, and clean energy.
Chancellor Scholz arrived in Delhi late Thursday and was greeted by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. The visit, occurring from October 24-26 at Modi's invitation, aims to deepen collaboration in various sectors.
During their meeting, Modi and Scholz exchanged views on a range of critical issues. The leaders are set to co-chair the seventh Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) at Hyderabad House, where ministers from both countries will engage in comprehensive discussions and report their findings directly to the Prime Minister and the Chancellor.
The IGC serves as a whole-of-government framework, facilitating dialogue on bilateral cooperation across multiple domains. This biannual exercise follows the last IGC held in Berlin in May 2022, which resulted in the establishment of the German-Indian Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP).
As the visit progresses, Modi and Scholz's talks are expected to pave the way for strengthened economic and strategic relations, reinforcing the commitment of both nations to collaborative growth and sustainable development.
