November 2, 2024: In a chilling incident, two migrant laborers were shot by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district on Friday. This attack marks the second targeted assault on non-locals in the region within just 12 days, raising serious concerns about the safety of migrant workers in the area.
The injured individuals, identified as Sofiyan and Usman Malik, both 25 years old and hailing from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, were working as daily wagers for the Jal Shakti Department. Following the shooting, they were rushed to JVC Hospital Bemina in Srinagar, where their condition is reported to be stable.
Security forces quickly responded to the incident, launching a search operation in the vicinity to track down the assailants. The attack follows a series of violent episodes targeting non-local workers in Jammu and Kashmir, which has seen a worrying escalation in recent weeks.
This latest incident comes just 12 days after a tragic shooting in Ganderbal district, where a doctor and six migrant workers were killed at a construction site. These workers were part of a team engaged in building the Z-Morh tunnel, a significant infrastructure project in Central Kashmir.
Additionally, on October 18, another migrant worker from Bihar was found dead in Shopian district, further highlighting the precarious situation for non-locals in the region.
