November 11, 2024: In a chilling video message, Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has threatened to launch attacks on Hindu temples in India, specifically targeting the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, one of the country's holiest sites. The warning, issued by the banned Sikh separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), claims the planned attacks will take place on November 16 and 17, 2024.
The video, reportedly filmed in Brampton, Canada, shows Pannun directly calling for violence against Hindu places of worship. In the message, Pannun declares, "We will shake the foundations of Ayodhya, birthplace of the violent Hindutva ideology," implying a direct assault on the Ram Mandir. The footage includes images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi praying at the Ram Mandir during its inauguration earlier this year, seemingly designed to provoke further tension.
Pannun, a key figure in the Khalistani separatist movement, also used the video to warn the Indian diaspora in Canada to stay clear of any possible attacks on Hindu temples in the region. His statement follows a broader pattern of threatening rhetoric, as Pannun has repeatedly incited violence against Indian interests and the Hindu community, both in India and abroad.
In October 2024, Pannun warned passengers traveling on Air India flights between November 1 and 19 to be cautious, claiming the period coincides with the 40th anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which he refers to as the "Sikh genocide." He also called for violence against Indian diplomats, marking a troubling escalation in his attempts to provoke unrest.
Pannun, who was designated a terrorist under India's Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in 2020, continues to operate from North America, where he has been linked to several inflammatory acts against India. Despite multiple warrants for his arrest, he remains active in promoting his agenda for a separate Sikh state, often using social media and videos to rally support among radical elements.
The rise of pro-Khalistani activities in Canada has raised serious concerns within the Indian government, especially as attacks on Hindu temples and acts of vandalism have increased in recent years. Incidents like the recent clashes between pro-Khalistani protesters and devotees at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, Ontario, as well as disruptions of consular events organized by the Indian Consulate, have further strained relations between India and Canada.
The Indian government has repeatedly urged Canadian authorities to take stronger action against the growing threat posed by Khalistani radicals. However, critics have pointed out that the response from Canadian officials has been inconsistent, with many questioning whether enough is being done to protect the Hindu community from these violent provocations.
