November 12, 2024: An intense gunbattle erupted between security forces and suspected terrorists in the Nagmarg area of Bandipora district, North Kashmir, on Tuesday. The clash is the result of a joint operation launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of militants in the region.
According to a statement from the Srinagar-based 15 Corps, the operation began following a tip-off that led forces to the general area of Nagmarg. “On 12 Nov 24, based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Nagmarg. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops, and upon being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Our troops effectively retaliated. The operation is ongoing,” the Corps said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The security forces are currently engaged in an intense search and cordon operation, and it is believed that two to three terrorists are trapped in the area. As of now, no casualties have been reported from either side, and the exact number of militants involved remains unclear.
The operation comes amid heightened security in Jammu and Kashmir, as forces continue to counter the persistent threat from terrorist groups in the region. Local authorities have urged residents to avoid the area, and additional reinforcements have been deployed to assist in the operation.
This is a developing story, and further updates will follow as the situation unfolds.
