New Delhi: A Delhi court has directed further investigation into BJP leader and Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra's alleged involvement in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia ordered that an FIR be lodged against Mishra, citing a cognizable offense.

The court's decision was based on a complaint filed by Mohd Ilyas, who alleged that Mishra and his associates blocked a road and destroyed street vendors' carts on February 23, 2020. Ilyas claimed that the police stood by and warned protestors to vacate the area or face consequences.

The Delhi Police had opposed the complaint, stating that Mishra was being framed and had no role in the riots. However, the court found that the material presented by the prosecution corroborated Ilyas' allegations.

The court's order is a significant development in the case, which has been ongoing for several years. The 2020 North-East Delhi riots resulted in the deaths of over 50 people and injured hundreds more.

Mishra has consistently denied any involvement in the riots, but the court's decision suggests that there is sufficient evidence to warrant further investigation.
