October 29, 2024: In a disturbing development following the assassination of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, death threats have been issued against his son, Zeeshan Siddique, and Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The threats surfaced on October 25, just weeks after Siddique was fatally shot outside his office, allegedly by members of the Bishnoi gang.
The threats were made via phone calls, which included demands for ransom from both Siddique and Khan. Acting swiftly, the police launched an investigation and arrested a 20-year-old suspect, identified as Mohammad Tayyab, alias Gurfan, in Noida's Sector 39 area on Tuesday morning. The Mumbai Police are now in the process of bringing Tayyab back to the city on a transit remand for further questioning.
The case stems from a complaint filed by the office of Zeeshan Siddique, who recently joined the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction after being expelled from the Congress earlier this year. This move comes ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, where Siddique is set to contest from the Bandra East constituency—a seat he previously won in 2019.
Zeeshan expressed his emotional commitment to the NCP, indicating a desire to serve his constituency despite the recent threats to his safety. The shocking incident has raised concerns about security for political figures and public personalities in Maharashtra, particularly in the wake of violent gang-related incidents.
