January 11, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded at Kannauj railway station on Saturday morning when the ceiling slab of an under-construction building collapsed. The mishap occurred during the renovation of the station under the Amrit Bharat scheme, where a two-storey structure was being constructed.

Around 40 workers and railway staff were present at the site when the accident took place. So far, 23 individuals have been rescued and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. However, several others are still feared trapped beneath the heavy debris.

Eyewitnesses reported that the collapse triggered panic among workers and onlookers. Locals rushed to the site but were unable to assist due to the extensive wreckage. Specialized teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police were deployed to carry out rescue and relief operations.

The rescue teams are working tirelessly to clear the debris and search for survivors. The authorities have yet to determine the cause of the collapse, and an investigation is expected to follow once rescue operations conclude.

The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at construction sites, especially in public infrastructure projects. Families of the workers and staff affected by the accident are anxiously waiting for updates, as the community hopes for the safe recovery of those trapped.
