February 17, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to announce its Chief Minister for Delhi on February 19, sources revealed. The decision will be finalized in a key party legislature meeting, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for the following day, February 20.
Following a resounding victory in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections, where the BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, the party is carefully selecting its leadership team. Sources indicate that 15 names have been shortlisted, from which nine leaders will be chosen for key positions, including Chief Minister, cabinet ministers, and the Speaker.
This victory marks BJP’s return to power in Delhi after a 27-year gap, dealing a major blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The AAP, which had dominated Delhi politics for the past decade, managed to win only 22 seats. Its senior leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, faced shocking defeats.
Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s return from his US visit, the BJP leadership has been engaged in high-level discussions to finalize a name for the Chief Ministerial post. The party had not projected a CM candidate before the elections, making the selection process crucial.
Among the frontrunners is Parvesh Verma, who gained prominence after defeating AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in the prestigious New Delhi constituency. When asked about his potential appointment, Verma remained humble, stating, “Whatever the party high command decides, I will accept it happily.”
Other strong contenders for the top post include former Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta, senior leader Satish Upadhyay, Delhi BJP General Secretary Ashish Sood, and Jitendra Mahajan, who has close ties with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
With political dynamics shifting in the national capital, all eyes are on the BJP as it prepares to reveal its Chief Ministerial choice in just two days.
