August 8, 2024  Apollo Excelcare Hospital achieved a significant milestone by being the first hospital in Assam and Northeast to carry out a Pulse Generator Replacement procedure on a 111-year-old patient, showcasing their dedication to excellence in healthcare.

Bilat Bibi, a 111-year-old woman from Guwahati, who has a history of Permanent Pacemaker Implantation in 2014,and COPD, was recently hospitalized at Apollo Excelcare Hospital in Guwahati for Pulse Generator Replacement. The Cardiology team at Apollo Excelcare Hospital, Boragaon, Guwahati (consisting of Dr. Neil Bardoloi, Dr. Amitava Misra, and Dr. Dhanjit Nath) conducted the PGR procedure under local anesthesia with TPI backup, serving as a temporary solution before a permanent pacemaker is implanted. The team comprised of the anaesthetist, cardiac nursing team, and cath lab technicians.

The cardiologists mentioned that the case presented a significant difficulty, requiring careful measures due to her age. Despite the risks of syncope, injuries, and sudden cardiac arrest, the benefits of the procedure were deemed greater. No complications were encountered during or after the operation. She received conservative treatment and other supportive medications. At the time of discharge, the patient's hemodynamic status was stable.
