February 9, 2024: In a recent development, the smuggling of fake gold is increasing day by day in Lakhimpur and Sonitpur Districts of Assam.

Reportedly, Assam Police detained two smugglers and seized fake gold in the shape of a boat in Gohpur on Friday. The detained persons have been identified as Mukesh Kumar Sharma of Gujarat and Bhagirath Chowdhury of Jharkhand.

As per sources, the smugglers were caught red-handed while trying to buy the gold worth Rs 4 lakh from a house in the Galchepa area.

On the other hand, the third member of the smuggling team manages to flee from the scene immediately after knowing about the police arrival.

Meanwhile, Gohpur Police began interrogating both the smugglers about the incident.
