December 5, 2023: The District Transport Office, Guwahati has released a new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 which imposes hefty penalties for violating traffic norms in Assam. The penalties for offences have been increased in order to increase road safety.

According to the release, one driving without a licence will be fined Rs 5,000, drunken driving will be fined Rs 10,000 and offences by juveniles – driver or owner of the vehicles shall be deemed to be guilty.
