JBF organised anti-Rabies camps in all the north-eastern states to vaccinate dogs and cats against Rabies and create awareness

September 28, 2021: On the occasion of World Rabies Day, 2021, Guwahati based animal welfare organisation JBF (Just be Friendly) initiated the largest Anti Rabies Vaccination Programme for dogs and cats for the first time in all states of North East.

As one of the biggest initiatives towards eradication of the world’s deadliest disease, the programme was begun on September 22 and concluded on September 28.

Tripura conducted their second phase of ARV drive from 28th September for another week. JBF’s World Rabies Day programmes also coincided with programmes to observe the 87th birthday of Brigitte Bardot, former Hollywood actress, who is one the oldest well-wisher and supporter of the organisation. Bardot’s birthday falls on the same day.

Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, founder of JBF said, “The ultimate goal is to control and eliminate rabies spread by dogs, which is one of the few communicable diseases that can be eliminated using currently available vaccines and tools for veterinary and public health interventions. As this year’s theme is, Rabies: Facts, Not Fear, I urge everyone to come forward and participate in the prevention of this deadly disease in animals and human beings.”

Every year, 28th September is observed as World Rabies Day since 2007 by several organisations including the government to create awareness among the public regarding the deadly disease Rabies and tell them about the preventive measures.
