April 2, 2025: Chapar police have arrested Abdul Barek, the prime accused in a case related to the recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition. Barek had been on the run since December last year.
According to reports, the police conducted a late-night raid in December at the residence of Ayub Ali in Hardemara, Chapar. During the operation, a revolver and five live bullets were recovered, which were allegedly hidden inside the house.
Following the recovery, the police arrested several individuals, including Ayub Ali, his wife Khudeja Khatun, his mother Alima Begum, Tajnur Haque, Sanidul Islam, and Mojamil Haque. They were subsequently sent to jail. However, the main mastermind, Abdul Barek, managed to escape and remained at large.
After months of search operations, the police finally apprehended Barek. He has been booked under Chapar Police Station case no. 198/2024 and multiple sections of the BNS Act, including 61(2)/191(3)/132/121(2)/121(1)/109/76. Following his arrest, Barek was sent to judicial custody.
Authorities have intensified their crackdown on illegal arms possession in the region, aiming to curb such criminal activities.
