November 21, 2023: Tension erupted in Barpeta, Assam after a teenage girl was allegedly attacked with an acid by a man on Monday evening.

The incident happened in the Kayakuchi area when the victim was returning home from a book fair along with her elder sister.

The victim’s family lodged an FIR against the incident where they mentioned a person named Rafizul Islam. The victim’s family members claimed that she had rejected the proposal following which the man had attacked her.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). She was admitted to Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, Barpeta immediately after the incident but later, doctors referred her to GMCH for better treatment.

Based on the FIR, police detained Rafizul Islam and he is undergoing treatment at Barpeta Medical as he was also injured during the incident.

However, the Police are investigating the matter and further details are awaited.
