October 2, 2021: After being shut for almost 2 years due to COVID, cinema halls of Assam would open from 6 PM on October 2. The state government in its revised SOP issued on October 1 said that cinema halls can be open with 50% seating capacity following all COVID norms. Only double vaccinated customers would be allowed to enter cinema halls, the SOP said.
Assam has around 80 cinema halls, of which about 6 of them had shut shop due to financial stress during COVID lockdown.
There are over 15,000 people whose livelihood depends on these halls. They appear to be happy about the government’s decision to re-open the halls.
