Karachi Airport Blast: Two Chinese Nationals Killed in BLA-Claimed Terror Attack

October 7, 2024: A devastating blast near Karachi's international airport on Sunday night claimed the lives of two Chinese nationals, confirmed the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan. The explosion, attributed to the separatist militant group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), was executed using a vehicle-borne explosive device aimed specifically at Chinese engineers working in the region.

Local reports indicate that at least 10 additional people were injured in the attack, including police officers who were responding to the scene. The BLA claimed responsibility for the incident, marking a significant escalation in violence against foreign nationals in Pakistan.

In response to the attack, the Chinese Embassy issued a strong condemnation, expressing deep condolences to the victims' families and calling for a thorough investigation and enhanced security measures to protect Chinese citizens in Pakistan. "The Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Pakistan strongly condemn this terrorist attack and express deep condolences to the innocent victims of both countries," the statement read.

Deputy Inspector General East Azfar Mahesar addressed the media, stating that preliminary investigations suggest the blast involved an oil tanker. "We are investigating the cause and circumstances of the blast, which will take some time," he noted, emphasizing that police are actively working to gather more information.
